When I showed the first piece of copy I ever wrote (for the Woolwich, I think) to John Bacon, the joint creative director at Ogilvy & Mather, he told me it read as if it had been written by a Hungarian computer student and encouraged me to have another go.
In the 20 odd years since then, I'd like to think I've got better, both as a writer and creative thinker.
As you'll see from my CV, I have worked on just about everything, starting in the world of above-the-line before gravitating to direct and digital, plying my trade in big, dynamic agencies and fledgling, start-ups.
I've been a group or department head on four occasions, where my responsibilities included employing student teams and overseeing and inspiring juniors, as well as getting on with my day job of building successful brands. I've got a good batting average on pitch wins and also won my fair share of awards (though losing to a ponderous charity campaign in the DMAs circa 2002 still rankles).
